African (Sub-Saharan) Accents Learning Materials
- The Sub-Saharan African accents materials include recordings of AccentHelp coach Jim Johnson guiding you through the basics of these accents along with a native speaker from Malawi demonstrating the practice words and sentences, leading you through the text. You'll also have tracks of Jim leading you through a monologue in the accent, with the native speaker demonstrating it.
- You will also hear native speakers from 13 different African nations reading through the practice sentences and the practice monologue, along with hearing them in conversation. (You can see the specific information at the Audio Files tab below.)
- There are additional recordings of native speakers from 23 African nations: Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Cote D'ivoire, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
- You'll get a PDF book that accompanies the teaching audio. This book also comes in two more formats: a smaller PDF for printing and EPUB for portable readers. You'll also get transcriptions of the recordings of the native speakers in PDF format.
- Other African accents will be covered in additional AccentHelp materials, including North Africa in the Arabic/Middle East materials and another download focused on South African.
- All of the sound files are in MP3 format so that you can play them on your computer, load them onto your phone, or burn them to a CD.
- You'll receive a link via email so that you can download all of the materials as ZIP files directly to your computer.
- You'll also get future updates for free! (This version was updated in May of 2023.)
All profits from these materials go to diversity scholarships for actors at the University of Houston.
